While Tomas Haake had previously handled most of Meshuggah's cover artwork himself, the band made the decision with obZen to outsource the cover, tapping Joachim Luetke, a German multimedia artist who had previously provided artwork for bands like Kreator, Arch Enemy and Dimmu Borgir, including the latter's darkly symbolic In Sorte Diaboli.
